Louis Gossett Jr., the trailblazing actor known for his iconic roles in *An Officer and a Gentleman* and *Roots*, has passed away at the age of 87. He made history as the first Black man to win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, marking a significant milestone in Hollywood.

With a prolific career spanning over 200 projects and 12 more in development, Gossett’s influence is undeniable, though he tragically won’t see his upcoming work completed.

He passed away in Santa Monica, California, on March 28, 2024, due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), with heart failure and atrial fibrillation as contributing factors. Despite facing racism and personal struggles, including battles with drug and alcohol addiction, Gossett overcame adversity to leave an indelible mark on the entertainment industry. He is survived by his two children, Satie and Sharron, and will be remembered for his groundbreaking achievements and resilience in the face of challenges
