A recent Harley-Davidson billboard has ignited controversy due to its “offensive” language. The ad encouraged people to ride a Harley and live courageously with the tagline: “Leave all the bulls**t in the wind behind you.” It was created by the Bayside Harley Davidson dealer in Portsmouth.

Shawn Robinson, the dealership’s general manager, defended the tagline, emphasizing that riding a bike allows people to leave their daily concerns behind. However, local residents complained about the billboard, considering it inappropriate, especially for children.

While some argue for freedom of speech and artistic expression, others believe that public spaces should be free of profanity. Portsmouth City Councilman Bill Moody stated that the billboard was within Bayside’s property rights.

Robinson hopes the controversy will generate attention for their dealership but wishes the community would focus on more significant issues, given Portsmouth’s economic challenges.

Opinions on the billboard are divided. Some support it as a fitting message for bikers, while others consider it unsuitable for a public highway. The debate continues over whether it should stay or be removed.
