Trump mocked online for ‘awkward’ reason after King Charles makes joke aimed at the president

King Charles and Donald Trump enjoyed themselves as they exchanged jokes during their speeches at the White House State Dinner on Tuesday. However, Charles’ joke aimed at the U.S. President is sparking reactions, and it’s Donald Trump who is being ridiculed.

King Charles and Queen Camilla have left Washington, D.C. and touched down in New York City to continue their 4-day state visit. The royals have spent much time with President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump since their arrival at the White House on Monday.

On Tuesday, the second day of their state visit, King Charles addressed Congress and received standing ovations. The Washington stay concluded with a White House State Dinner that featured its fair share of lighthearted moments.

King Charles and Donald Trump both spoke at the dinner toast, and the monarch made sure to make a few jokes, several of which were aimed at Trump.

At the Davos Summit in January, Donald Trump criticized their European allies, saying they have been freeloading on defense since World War II. Trump said that without the U.S help during World War II, “you’d be speaking German and a little Japanese..”

King Charles had not missed Donald Trump’s earlier comment. This year marks the 250th anniversary of the U.S independence, and the monarch took the opportunity.

“You recently commented, Mr. President, that if it were not for the United States, European countries would be speaking German. Dare I say that, if it wasn’t for us, you’d be speaking French,” Charles said.

The king was referring to areas in North America with British and French roots, where the two rival colonial powers fought for control of the continent before the United States became independent 250 years ago.

The video of King Charles joking with Trump about speaking French quickly went viral on social media. While people praised the monarch for his great sense of humor and jokes, social media users also ridiculed Donald Trump. Why? Many claimed Donald didn’t understand it.

“I’m sure Trump has no idea what he’s referring to,” one user wrote in the comment section to the clip on X.

That awkward smile, yeah, he definitely didn’t catch that one,” a second said.

A third claimed, “The look of embarrassed bewilderment says that he has no idea what the King is referring to,” while a fourth asked, “Can someone explain this one to Trump later, please?”

“Trump having no idea why that joke is so funny since he knows nothing about history, turns to the “audience” and grins as if he’s in on the joke,” another user wrote.
